The Cupertino-based tech giant has been rumored to be interested in the self-driving car market for the past two years and it has not publicly addressed its plans until now.<br \/>\nThe company submitted a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stating that Apple has been excited about the potential of automated technology in transportation and many other areas.<!--more--><br \/>\nNo further details on the project were offered, but Apple says that it is investing \u201cheavily\u201d in the study of \u201cmachine learning and automation\u201d. The letter highlights the \u201csignificant social benefits\u201d of self-driving cars.
