Another self-driving car has been involved in a crash and it is the second incident in less than two months.<\/p>\n

The accident happened in Chandler at Chandler Boulevard and Los Feliz Drive, east of McClintock Drive. On Friday night, Waymo released a video of the moments leading up to the crash. The video is taken from front-facing camera sensors mounted in the car.
\nAccording to Chandler Police, the incident took place at about 12:06 pm local time on Friday, when a driver of a silver Honda sedan reportedly heading east on Chandler Boulevard had to swerve across the median strip in order to avoid hitting a vehicle that was going north on Los Feliz Drive and eventually collided with the Waymo minivan. Waymo says, their vehicle<\/a> was traveling at a slow speed in manual mode not autonomously.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, injuries were minor and both the Waymo and the Honda had to be towed from the scene. Chandler Police Department is currently investigating the incident.<\/p>\n

In late 2017, Arizona changed its rules on autonomous vehicle testing so that driverless cars can be operated without a human behind the wheel. Until then, a human operator had been required, in order to take over when an accident arises.<\/p>\n

The incident is the second this year in Arizona involving a self-driving car. Earlier in 2018, an Uber self-driving prototype was involved in a fatal collision with a pedestrian, who stepped out into the road in Tempe, Arizona. The vehicle was unable to stop, and the Uber driver did not intervene in time to prevent the accident. The 49-year-old pedestrian was taken to hospital, but later died of their injuries. After the accident, Uber subsequently settled with the victim\u2019s family for an undisclosed amount and temporarily suspended self-driving car tests in all locations.<\/p>\n
