The electric carmaker is closer than ever to reaching that goal with help from Advanced Micro Devices Inc. Tesla is reportedly developing such a chip on top of technology from AMD and is even working with Global Foundries, an AMD spin-off and chip fabricator.<!--more--><br \/>\nTesla has hired more than 50 people to work on the project under the leadership of longtime chip architect Jim Keller, who previously worked with AMD and Apple. Among them, there are several AMD veterans including Bill McGee principal hardware engineer, director Ganesh Venkataramanan, and Dan Bailey as a system circuit design lead.<br \/>\nAMD share price spiked after it was announced that the company is working with the electric carmaker. The same day the shares of the stock got nearly 5 percent higher and continued to climb for hours.<br \/>\nA more power-efficient A.I. chip could help Tesla get closer to delivering totally autonomous <a href=\"http:\/\/www.interplextransportation.com\" target=\"_blank\">vehicles<\/a>.
