it needs about 2,000 travelers to get an accurate read on passenger weights and their carry-on bags.
Finnair is looking for 2,000 travelers to get an accurate read on passenger weights and their carry-on bags. The aim is to verify the accuracy of figures the carrier uses to estimate a plane’s total weight.
Finnair confirmed that it begins weighing travelers on a voluntary basis and the study will continue through spring 2018. The main reason behind this decision is that the carrier wants a more accurate data for determining aircraft weight and balance, which can make fuel usage and safety tactics more efficient. The airline wants to collect data on the average weight of travelers and their carry-on luggage that is the reason they want to weigh passengers when they carry heavy winter coats or travel lighter in warmer weather.
The company spokesperson said in a statement that the company was conducting a study to determine whether they have accurate data on passenger standard weights. He added that the airline has a strong safety culture and is also a very data-driven organization.
